The basics

What is a browser macro?

A browser macro is a saved list of steps you’d otherwise do by hand on a website: open this page, type into that field, pick this option, click Save. A browser macro recorder writes that list for you while you work, so you never have to describe the steps or write a script.

Press play and the recorder does the same steps again, on the real page, in your own logged-in browser. It’s the same idea as a macro in Excel or Word — just for websites.

A recorded macro, in plain English

  2. 2

Type into Customer name — “Dana Lee”

  3. 3

    Choose Shipping — “Express”

  4. 4

  5. 5

Step by step

How to record a macro in your browser

It takes about as long as doing the task once.

Five steps

  1. 1

Install EasyAgent from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons. No account, nothing to configure.

  2. 2

Open the page you want to automate, click the EasyAgent icon and press Start new recording.

  3. 3

Do the task normally. Every click, field, checkbox and dropdown becomes a step in the list, in order. Passwords are never recorded.

  4. 4

Press Stop recording and check the list. Rename, reorder or delete steps, or change what a step types.

  5. 5

Press Replay. EasyAgent opens the starting page and does every step again. Want it for many records? Paste rows from Excel and press Run batch.

What it captures

What a browser macro can do

Anything you do with a mouse and keyboard on an ordinary web page, plus a few things that save you a second pass.

Clicks and typing

Buttons, links, text boxes, text areas — each recorded with several ways to find it again, so small page changes don’t break the macro.

Checkboxes and dropdowns

Native dropdowns and the custom “click to open, click an option” menus that admin panels use.

New tabs and frames

Links that open a new tab are followed automatically. Forms inside iframes are recorded too.

A value per row

Link any field to a spreadsheet column and the macro types a different value on every run.

Read results back

Extract a single value or a whole table from the page and download it as CSV.

Run on a timer

Schedule a macro every 15 minutes up to every 24 hours, with a downloadable log of every run.

Picking a tool

Macro recorder, auto clicker or RPA?

Three kinds of tool get called “macro recorders”. They solve different problems.

When a browser macro isn’t the right tool

What EasyAgent doesn’t do

  • It only works inside web pages. It can’t click around a desktop app, a PDF viewer or a file dialog.
  • It replays what you recorded — it doesn’t make decisions. Steps can be skipped when an element is or isn’t there, or when a column is ticked, but there’s no free-form scripting language.
  • Scheduled runs need the browser to be open. An extension can’t wake a closed browser or a sleeping computer.
  • A full site redesign can still break a macro. Re-recording it is usually a couple of minutes.
FAQ

Common questions

What is a browser macro recorder?
A browser extension that watches what you do on a website — clicks, typing, checkboxes, dropdowns — and saves it as a list of steps it can replay for you later.
Is EasyAgent free?
Yes. Every feature is free, with no account, no ads and no limit on runs or rows.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You record a macro by doing the task once. Each step is shown in plain English, and you can edit values without touching code.
Does it work on sites where I’m logged in?
Yes. Macros run in your own browser, in your existing session. Passwords are never recorded.
Can a macro use different data each time?
Yes. Link a field to a spreadsheet column, paste your rows, and the macro runs once per row. Placeholders like {{today}}, {{row}} and {{random}} fill in values that change on their own.
Which browsers does it work in?
Chrome and Firefox. In Chrome it opens as a side panel next to the page; in Firefox it opens as a popup.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. Macros and spreadsheets stay in your browser’s local storage. The only web requests EasyAgent makes are the pages your macro visits.
